In 2014, Allen Industries was approached by Speedway LLC upon its purchase of Hess gasoline stations and convenience stores. Knowing that Allen and Hess had been longtime partners, Speedway contracted with Allen for the reimaging of all Hess stores.
The project entailed design and installation of new signage as well as management of the site work at 1,000 former Hess locations. Allen’s project management included securing permit and zoning approvals for each store, replacement of all Hess brands/logos/signage, repainting according to the Speedway brand color scheme, and replacing vinyl canopies. It also included interior work of painting and installing wall graphics panels.
Materials used include polyvinyl chloride (PVC) on interior panels, red translucent vinyl incorporated in the pylons, red pigmented polycarbonate for channel letters, and red LED illumination. The design of the aluminum composite material (ACM) includes a tongue-and-groove seam reinforcement system that gives a seamless appearance.
With an aggressive schedule of completing the transition at five former Hess sites per day, five days per week, Allen Industries proved the capability of staying on spec, on time and on budget.
